M/V Shibui

In 1977 Jerry Schei of Edmonds Yacht Sales (based in Edmonds, WA) commissioned Ed Monk, Jr. to design a 50-foot pilothouse trawler similar to but better than the Alaskan 48, and made of fiberglass instead of wood. Alex Chueh (whom Ed Monk, Jr. refers to as "one of the most honorable men I have met") of Ocean Marine (later Ocean Alexander) built ninety before production ended in 1983.

We bought our 50' Ocean Alexander Mark I in May of 2000 and renamed her SHIBUI. Shibui (pronounced 'shee-BOO-ee') is Japanese for "simple, yet refined."

SHIBUI was built in 1979 as hull number 27, and has home ported in Puget Sound since she was commissioned.
